Connected Home Global Summit Recognizes Sigma Designs for Excellence in Technological Innovation
TAIPEI, TAIWAN & MILPITAS, CA. – JUNE 2, 2011 – Sigma Designs, the world leader in connected media platforms, announced today that its G.hn home networking technology has been awarded Connected Home Global Summit’s prestigious award for Best Enabling Product/Technology for the Connected Home. Sigma Designs G.hn technology wasselected by a panel of experts from close to a hundred technologies covering every home networking category. The Summit award recognizes and rewards products and services for their excellence, innovation and delivery on the promise of the “Connected Home.”
“It's an honor to receive this prestigious award from the Connected Home Global Summit,” said Gabi Hilevitz, vice president and general manager, home connectivity at Sigma Designs. “This represents recognition by the market of the important role G.hn is taking in aligning the home networking industry behind an internationally accepted unified standard. This is also recognition of Sigma Designs’ long term contribution to the G.hn standardization efforts and to the leadership position we established by being first to introduce a G.hn chip in the market.”
G.hn is the ITU-T definition of the next generation home AV network standard for distribution of Internet Protocol (IP) content across existing AC power lines, coax cables and phone lines. G.hn enables consumers to access, store and share a wide variety of content around the home without having to install new wiring. This includes broadband data, HD programs, video-on-demand (VOD), multi-room HD DVR recordings, voice over IP (VoIP), and streaming of HD video, music, and photos.
The Sigma Designs CG5110 with ClearPath Extreme™ (Sigma's MIMO feature over Powerline) is the only home networking solution that enables a completely self-install home entertainment network for distribution of Triple Play and IPTV over all existing wires in the home: power lines, coax and phone lines. This high-performance solution outdelivers every wired or wireless solution running in consumer households to date. With a single chip, it runs at least 700 Mbps – over four times faster throughput than MoCA today and 75% faster than MoCA 2. It is faster and more reliable than any wireless solution, too – all without requiring complicated security set-ups. Over powerlines, it delivers triple the performance of rival standards. With this level of performance, Sigma will enable service providers to easily and affordably deliver any service they are looking to implement in the coming decade, including highdefinition multimedia entertainment, triple-play services, IPTV, telepresence, telemedicine, home monitoring and 3DTV.
The Connected Home Global Summit has grown to become one of the premier events where the industry's most innovative operators, broadcasters, content owners and distributors, device manufacturers, software and component manufacturers come together, to identify the technology choices and business models that will monetize the connected home.
